Did you know…?
- Varicose veins are swollen, twisted, painful veins filled with an abnormal amount of blood.
- Varicose veins affect 1 out of 2 people age 50 and older, and 15 to 25% of all adults.
The MVS team of board certified physicians has established the Varicose Vein Treatment Program to deliver effective solutions for patients who suffer from varicose veins. They are proud to offer innovative, minimally invasive vein ablation treatments that deliver exceptional results with no pain, scars, stitches or downtime.
The solution starts with an accurate assessment
The MVS team starts by performing a thorough exam and utilizing the latest diagnostic techniques to determine if the patient is a candidate for minimally invasive vein ablation treatment. Diagnostic methods may include Duplex Ultrasound, which is used to assess vein anatomy, vein valve function and venous blood flow changes.
The MVS team will also map the great saphenous vein and examine the deep and superficial venous systems to determine if the veins are open, and pinpoint any pooling of blood caused by weak valves. The results are carefully analyzed and used to determine an appropriate, customized treatment plan.
A faster, simpler way to resolve painful and disfiguring varicose veins
Candidates for minimally invasive vein ablation treatment will reap the many benefits of this simple, outpatient procedure. The MVS physician starts by placing an ultra-thin catheter into the great saphenous vein in the thigh through a small nick in the skin. The catheter is carefully guided to the treatment site using state-of-the-art x-ray guidance, and laser or radiofrequency energy is then applied to the inside of the vein to heat and seal it.
Closing the problem vein allows other, healthy veins to take over and carry blood normally from the leg. As a result, varicose veins shrink and resume a normal appearance.
Key advantages of vein ablation treatment
- Takes less than an hour and provides immediate relief of painful symptoms
- Allows patients to return to normal activities immediately with little or no pain
- No scars or stitches
- Delivers a 93-95% success rate and a very low recurrence rate compared to traditional surgery
About varicose veins
In normal, healthy veins, one-way valves keep blood flowing toward the heart against the force of gravity. However, when the valves become weak and don’t close properly, they allow blood to flow backward and pool in the veins. Varicose veins are those that have lost their valve effectiveness, and become elongated, ropelike and swollen. Symptoms include aching leg pain, leg fatigue, and leg heaviness. Aging women, those with a family history of the condition, and those who have undergone more than one pregnancy are at greatest risk for varicose veins. |
